Marcus Hill ‘aka” The Ultimate Connector!

Marcus has helped me in more ways than I have words to describe.  Marcus is a leader that believes in the power of people and relationships. He is the ultimate connector. I call him the ultimate connector because developing new, and strengthening existing relationships is organic to Marcus.  By connecting with Marcus, one will typically only be “six degrees” or less from achieving another vital connection.

Marcus knows everyone, and everyone knows Marcus. I have been amazed by his ability to connect with others, maintain, nurture, and share meaningful professional relationships.  He has and continues to be influential in connecting me with people supportive of me, my professional goals and career progression!

Marcus helped members of the Senior Executive Success (SES) Academy improve their leadership skills through multiple group and individual mentoring sessions.  Marcus provided invaluable mentoring, drawing on decades of practical experience in the federal executive and managerial realms from his successful civilian and military career.  Specifically, Marcus provided insights on how to hold oneself and organizations accountable, how to bring out the best in teams, how to identify creative approaches to increase employee engagement, and how to lead teams effectively, rather than reacting to problems.

Marcus’s interaction with the diverse executive group helped quickly develop a strong, supportive bond among the leadership forum members. Through his skill in leading case-study discussions and one-on-one mentoring, he encouraged members to discuss their organizational challenges, identify options, and develop action plans.  Through experiential learning, Marcus supported members in bringing in new ideas to better understand organizational issues and dynamics and to compare them with those of other organizations.  Marcus was impactful in the self-reflection process, which is the most important part of the experiential experience for SES Academy participants.

I have had the great pleasure of working with and getting to know Marcus since he started teaching for the Federal Employment Law Training Group. Marcus is an excellent communicator with a deep understanding of the full inner workings of the Federal workplace.

Marcus has extensive knowledge on Ieadership development, relationship-building, and diversity/inclusion initiatives.

His resume is unmatched. He has had great success at everything he’s done, making a substantial difference at each stop along the way. Talking with Marcus is so easy. For someone with so much knowledge, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more down-to-earth and likable person. Yet, I feel I learn something significant every time we talk.

In the past six years, I have had the pleasure of partnering and strategizing with Marcus on several complex and high-visibility projects, including growing our leaders, implementing forward-leaning inclusive diversity programs, and ensuring the health and safety of our employees. 

Marcus is always professional, looking for the good in people, yet managing to keep his eye on the business of FLETC and DHS.  He understood that our people were the key to our overall success and he invested his personal and professional equity into ensuring everyone had an opportunity to grow, develop and exceed their mission goals.

In my capacity as Chief-of-Staff (acting)  at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers, I had the opportunity to witness first-hand Marcus Hill’s executive skillsets in management, mission readiness and organizational support.  His recognition of the importance of relationship building has allowed him to develop an extensive network of colleagues with a variety of expertise both in the federal and private sectors.  His sensitivity to employees as people and his focus on valuing all diversity, created an environment for honest dialogue in tackling complex issues.  His mentorship was instrumental in helping me navigate the Department of Homeland Security, Senior Executive Service - Candidate Development Program and the advancement of my 30+ year career in federal law enforcement.
